Have you ever wanted to run a half marathon? Now you're chance! Pastor Greg is training a group to complete a half marathon (13.1 miles) in September (the Running of the Bays). The training program, based on run-walk interval running, is designed for beginners with no distance running experience. We won't be training for time; instead our goal will be to complete the training and the race without injury.
Join us on this Saturday for our first group run. We'll run a slow 2 miles at an interval of 2:1 (run 2 min, walk 1 min). We'll also spend some time going through the schedule and talking about the training.
Pastor Greg has used this tried-and-true training technique to complete four marathons and a dozen half marathons. (He most recently completed the Roman Marathon in April.) It will involve running 3 days a week: 2 short runs and one long run that starts at 2 miles and increases by 1 mile each week.
Don't be intimidated by the idea of running 13 miles. You can do it! Slowly and surely, mile by mile, week by week. You can accomplish this great feat.
The total cost for participating will be less than $200: $50 for race registration, about $100 for a new pair of running shoes sized and fit at a local running store, and $25-$50 for additional gear and supplies (water bottle, food, etc.)
