Healthy: Discovering the Connection
between Faith and Health
It’s summer, which means a lot of us are trying to get healthier. It might be by exercising more, eating better, or managing illnesses more effectively. But health is on the minds of a lot of people. To help with those health-related goals, this series will explore the intersections, relationships, and interrelatedness of Christian faith and our health. This isn’t a series on how to exercise more or eat better. (There are much better resources for that.) Instead, we’ll look at deep biblical truths that have dramatic impact on how we see and act out our health.
How do you define healthy? Is it your weight, BMI, cholesterol? Is it how your clothes fit or how you look in the mirror? That may cover physical health, but what about emotion, relational, or spiritual health? Join Pastor Greg for a big-picture discussion of health and the interconnectedness of our whole self. (RiverLife Church, St. Paul, MN, 6/11/17)
Have you ever wondered why God would care about our bodies if we’re just going to heaven after we die? It’s a legitimate question with an unexpected answer. Our bodies are much more than the fleshly containers for our souls for 80 or so years. Pastor Greg shares insights into our bodies from one of the most relevant passages in the whole Bible. (6/25/17)
Have you ever broken something that you borrowed from somebody else? It feels horrible, doesn’t it? What if we thought about our bodies like we do our neighbor’s rake? What would be the implications for our health and our attitude about our body. Pastor Greg talks about the idea of stewardship in relation to our bodies. (7/2/17)
NOTE: Due to camera issues this week, we only have the audio for this sermon.
There is one sin that's hurting your health more than any other? In fact, theologians have been writing about this particular sin for thousands of years, and it’s largely disappeared from modern church sermons. This week, Pastor Greg talks about the classic sin of gluttony -- what it is and how you can defeat it. (7/9/17)
Did you know that there's a sin that's sabotaging your attempts to get healthier? It's laziness (or sloth, the cutest of the 7 Deadly Sins). For many of us, it's so embedded into our lives that we don't even recognize it as sin anymore. How do we differentiate between resting, relaxing, and the sin of laziness. Join Pastor Greg to find out how to see it in yourself and what you can do about it. (7/16/17)
Do you feel like you're losing the battle with your health? With your weight, cholesterol, blood pressure, diabetes? Do you feel depressed, hopeless, and defeated? What if this isn’t the way God intended us to live? Pastor Greg shares the victory we have in Christ (even over our health) and why so many of us are still walking in defeat. (7/23/17)
